- Paid Seating Available: Enjoy the fireworks from a premium paid viewing area! (Please note: These are ground seating spots using blue tarps for up to 4 people, not chair seating).
- A Historic Event: With a rich history spanning over 300 years, the Kumano Fireworks Festival ranks among Japan's top fireworks events, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees each year to witness a grand display of around 10,000 fireworks.
- The 3 Major Highlights:
- Marine Explosions: An exhilarating display where fireworks are shot directly into the water from a high-speed boat, creating impressive semicircles that light up the ocean.
- The 250kg Three-Sanjaku Shell: An immense firework shell weighing 250kg explodes over the water, producing a stunning burst that spans 600 meters in diameter.
- Onigajo Grand Display: This breathtaking finale takes advantage of the rocky cliffs and caves of "Onigajo"—a recognized national scenic area and natural monument—delivering blasts and roars so intense they create a sensation akin to a magnitude 7 earthquake.
Visit the sacred Kumano region, known as the origin of Japan’s pilgrimage culture
Kumano Hayatama Taisha Shrine
As one of the three revered Kumano shrines, it is distinguished by its striking vermilion-colored structures. The shrine grounds also house the sacred “Nagi Tree,” a nationally recognized natural monument believed to be over 1,000 years old.
Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine / Seiganto-ji Temple
- View Japan’s largest omikuji fortune slip and lucky charms featuring the Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow emblem also utilized in the Japan Football Association logo.
- The plaza at Seiganto-ji is a renowned photo opportunity where visitors can capture both the three-story pagoda and the breathtaking Nachi Falls in one frame.
The “Kumano Sanzan” collectively refers to three shrines and one temple: Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu City, Kumano Hongu Taisha in Tanabe City, and Kumano Nachi Taisha along with Seiganto-ji Temple in Nachikatsuura Town. Please note that this tour does not include a visit to Kumano Hongu Taisha.
World Heritage Site: Nachi Falls / Hiro Shrine
Standing at 133 meters, Nachi Falls is Japan’s tallest single-drop waterfall and ranks among the country’s three most famous waterfalls. The waterfall is revered as the sacred object of Hiro Shrine, which is an auxiliary shrine of Kumano Nachi Taisha.
World Heritage Site: Kumano Kodo Daimonzaka
Stroll along the historic Kumano Kodo Daimonzaka trail, which serves as the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage area, adorned with towering cedar trees, including the notable 800-year-old “Meoto Cedar Trees.” Experience the beautiful natural surroundings and spiritual atmosphere of Kumano.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes, as Daimonzaka involves about 15 minutes of uphill walking on stone-paved paths and stairs. Guests who prefer not to participate may take a bus instead.
