Gion Odori
The Gion Odori is a yearly dance event showcasing the talents of the geiko and maiko from the Gion Higashi district—one of the five geisha districts in Kyoto. This performance takes place over a period of 10 days, beginning on November 1st at the Gion Kaikan.
Every performance includes a unique script featuring a blend of nagauta and kiyomoto dances presented by the geiko and maiko of Gion Higashi. The show culminates with a spectacular finale that highlights the "Gion Higashi Kouta," a song that honors the four seasons of the Gion Higashi area, performed by all the geiko and maiko.
Being the sole dance performance among the five hanamachi during the autumn season, it has established itself as a beloved annual occasion that enhances the stunning autumn ambiance of Kyoto, drawing numerous visitors from both Japan and abroad.
This performance is available only for 10 days from 2026/11/1-2026/11/10!
During the event, attendees can indulge in matcha (green tea) while witnessing a tea ceremony conducted by Geiko (Geisha) and Maiko. Experience the beautifully choreographed dance performances and the enchanting atmosphere!
