Tour Description
This program provides a unique, hands-on opportunity to learn about "Kiyomizu-yaki" (Kiyomizu ware)—one of the most celebrated traditional crafts in Kyoto—from a government-certified master craftsman.
In contrast to typical tourist workshops that often follow an assembly-line approach, this experience is intentionally kept small, accommodating a maximum of 5 participants. We prioritize offering personalized and attentive guidance that caters to each individual's needs. With the support of a highly skilled master craftsman by your side, even those who are completely new to pottery can feel at ease and fully enjoy an authentic pottery-making experience.
Furthermore, you will commence your journey from a vital step known as "Tsuchikoroshi" (centering the clay)—a process that is often pre-prepared by staff in many other pottery classes. During this step, you will center the clay, eliminate air pockets, and ensure that the texture is consistently uniform. This phase is not merely a preparatory step; it is the core foundation of pottery making.
Your completed piece will be meticulously fired in the workshop’s actual kiln, and will be delivered to you as more than just a simple keepsake, but as a genuine piece of Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki artwork.
