CHOYA Umeshu Experience

Since 1914, CHOYA has been producing some of the finest Umeshu (Japanese Plum Wine) in the nation.

At the CHOYA UME STUDIO -Kyoto Sanjo, you will have the opportunity to create your own Umeshu with assistance from a bilingual Ume Concierge. Guidance is mainly provided in English, and booklets are accessible in English, Chinese, and Japanese.

During your time at the studio, you will:

• Discover the history of Ume and Umeshu.
• Taste and compare various types of Ume and sugar.
• Choose your desired combination.
• Begin making Umeshu by removing the stems from the Ume fruit and layering Ume and sugar.
• Relish the taste of Japan at home!

This tour includes one Ume syrup drink!

After your Umeshu-making session, take a stroll to Ganko Takasegawa Nijōen for authentic Japanese cuisine, perfect for hot summer days on a riverside terrace!

During June, July, and August, to prevent heatstroke, dining will take place indoors.

All participants must be 20 years old or older.

This is a 3.5-hour walking "assisted" tour led by staff from the Kyoto Tourist Information Center, conducted in English (non-licensed guide).

Itinerary

• Meet KTIC Friends at Exit 6: Sanjo station on Keihan line / Sanjo-Keihan station on Metro Tozai line.
• Tour Starts! Walk to CHOYA UME STUDIO -Kyoto Sanjo (5 min).
• Umeshu making begins! (60 min / fees included) one Ume syrup drink is included.
• Walk to Ganko Takasegawa Nijōen (10 min).
• Enjoy lunch at riverside terrace. (60 min / fees included) For June through August, you will dine indoor to avoid heatstroke.
• Walk to the station (10 min).
• Tour finish at the station.

1. Please bring a passport or photo ID (no digital) for shopping. You may be asked to show.

1. Due to traffic or other reasons, the duration of visits at each destination may be shortened, and arrival times may be delayed.
