Experience the Essence of Miyota
In Miyota, you will discover much more than just three activities.
Located near Karuizawa, Miyota presents a unique landscape where a profound connection with nature has been cultivated over time. With your private guide and vehicle, you will delve into this enduring relationship. This exploration unfolds through three essential facets: ice, natural materials, and gastronomy.
Your adventure begins with ice. Through the strategic sport of curling, you will learn how to “read” the ice by adapting to its changing conditions. This serves as a unique, physical introduction to the broader idea of harmonizing with nature.
Following this, you will journey back in time at the Asama Jomon Museum. Here, you will engage with the ancient Jomon culture and the persistent landscape of Miyota. Explore how Japan's earliest inhabitants cleverly utilized the natural resources around them, and channel that ancient knowledge through an interactive, hands-on crafting experience.
The experience reaches its peak with a carefully curated culinary adventure. Chef Matsumoto, who has spent eight years at Chez Tomo in Ginza, Tokyo, and served as the Executive Chef at Yukawatan, Hoshino Resorts in Karuizawa, deeply engages with the local ingredients from Miyota and Nagano. His course menu reflects the lasting connection between food, nature, and people, echoing traditions from the Jomon period to today. As you enjoy each meticulously crafted dish, you are invited to contemplate the day's journey and your own bond with the natural world.
Throughout the day, your dedicated guide will serve as your storyteller, seamlessly connecting these experiences. Through engaging discussions and expert insights during your travel, the day’s discoveries will come together into one cohesive and unforgettable narrative.
At the conclusion of your journey, what remains is not merely the recollection of curling, crafting, or dining. It is a fresh perspective on Japanese culture—revealed through the timeless wisdom of those who have long thrived in harmony with their environment by interpreting nature, utilizing its resources, and valuing the passage of time.
