The Grandeur of Nagaoka: A Multi-Sensory Masterpiece
Experience the iconic displays that have solidified Nagaoka's legendary reputation:
- The Phoenix Fireworks: Spanning an impressive 2 kilometers across the river, this hallmark display symbolizes "the phoenix's rebirth" and reflects the city's resilience.
- The Colossal Sho-sanjakudama: Get ready to be amazed by massive shells with a diameter of 3 feet, among the largest launched anywhere, producing massive bursts that extend dramatically across your line of sight.
- The Breathtaking Niagara Falls: A truly one-of-a-kind spectacle, this 650-meter-long fireworks display cascades down into the river, creating an enchanting luminous world as vibrant bursts illuminate the water.
Each firework is expertly choreographed and synchronized with music, including the stirring "Jupiter" symphony, transforming the spectacle into a harmonious and deeply emotional performance. With around 20,000 fireworks fired over two nights, the scale is immense, taking place from 7:20 PM to 9:10 PM each evening.
Beyond the stunning displays, the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival carries significant historical importance. It stands as a heartfelt memorial for those who perished in the 1945 bombing and the 2004 Chuetsu Earthquake, embodying a profound prayer for peace and healing. This adds a layer of depth and solemn beauty, making it an unforgettable event.

Fireworks Festival Tour: What to Bring & Important Notes
To ensure a pleasant experience at the fireworks festival, we suggest bringing the items listed below. Please review them carefully.
Additionally, please be aware that it takes approximately 30–90 minutes on foot from the parking lot to the viewing seats. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.
- ① Mats: Only blue tarpaulins are provided for the spectator group seats. It's advisable to bring your own cushions for added comfort. (Chairs are not allowed.)
- ② Rain poncho and waterproof shoes: A rain poncho is recommended in case of unexpected rain. A compact, full-body poncho is very handy for watching the fireworks. The area may become muddy in wet conditions, so waterproof shoes or boots are also suggested.
- ③ Protection against temperature changes: As the venue is outdoors with no shelter, please bring a hat, sunscreen, and drinks to shield yourself from the sun and heat. Nighttime temperatures can drop to around 20°C, so a light cardigan or jacket is advisable.
- ④ Flashlight: Visibility can be poor after sunset, making a light source useful. Some portable toilets may lack lighting.
- ⑤ Pocket tissues and wet wipes: Some portable toilets might not provide toilet paper, so it’s a good idea to bring your own.
- ⑥ Plastic bag for your shoes: You may need to take off your shoes and sit on a blue sheet in the viewing area.
Please note: The use of umbrellas is not permitted in the viewing area. When using a camera tripod or selfie stick, please keep it at a height that does not block the view of others (no higher than seated eye level). Standing up to take photos is also prohibited.
