Marvel at the Iconic "Window of Enlightenment" Framed in Autumn Leaves at Genko-an
- Founded in 1364 by Tetsuo of Daitoku-ji, Genko-an served as a retirement spot.
- During autumn, the temple grounds, from the entrance to the inner precincts, are adorned with vibrant fall colors.
- Key highlights include the “Window of Enlightenment” and the “Window of Delusion” located in the main hall.
- The view of the autumn foliage through these windows resembles a stunning painting, providing a picturesque experience.
Stroll Through the Vibrant Maple-Lined Pathways of Tranquil Josho-ji Temple
- Josho-ji Temple is the first temple established by Honami Koetsu in the Takaoka region.
- It features the "Yoshino Gate," a donation from the famous courtesan Yoshino Tayu, and the tea room "Iho-an."
- Situated in a tranquil natural setting, the temple showcases a magnificent display of Rakuhoku’s autumn foliage.
Discover the Serene Beauty of Koetsu-ji, Adorned in Brilliant Fall Colors
- Koetsu-ji Temple is located at the base of Takagamine, on land given to Honami Koetsu by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1615.
- Koetsu gathered artisans and family in this location, constructing a thatched retreat and forming an artistic community.
- In the autumn, the temple’s stone-paved path and moss-covered grounds are beautifully enveloped in colorful maple leaves, creating a deeply atmospheric environment.
- Its distinctive barrier, known as the Koetsu-gaki, is also notable; its gentle curves are said to mimic a reclining ox, earning it the name Gagyu-gaki (“Reclining Ox Fence”).
Savor a Refined Kyoto-Style Lunch Showcasing Seasonal Delicacies
- Indulge in a beautifully presented seasonal kaiseki meal that features Kyoto’s freshest ingredients and flavors of the season.
- This meal includes a refined and playful assortment of traditional dishes, such as hassun (seasonal appetizers), sashimi, simmered and fried items, and more—providing a delightful taste of Kyoto’s culinary artistry.
