Garden Overview

The garden is currently maintained by the fourth-generation owner, Kandaka Keiji.

At the rear of the garden stands the "Dohyo-iri," featuring branches that extend over four meters and spread out as if they are crawling along the ground. As its name implies, its grand appearance, which evokes the entrance of a yokozuna into the ring, captivates numerous visitors.

Another highlight within the garden is the Zuihoden, showcasing an array of masterpieces.

Established in 1978, the garden honors the second owner, the late Yoichi, who received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Sixth Class, for his bonsai orō. By passing through the large pine tree that marks the entrance, visitors can admire various masterpieces, including a pine tree that was featured at the Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition, Japan's oldest bonsai exhibition.

At the far end of the garden lies the over 200-year-old Black Pine, cherished by Okuma Shigenobu, who is believed to have favored it during the Meiji era. The thick and robust trunk at the base, known as the "tachikata," conveys a remarkable presence.
