Shimabara Castle & Samurai District
Experience a journey into Japan’s feudal history at Shimabara Castle, which showcases genuine warrior armor and a wealth of historical significance. Just a short distance away, explore the beautifully conserved Samurai District (Bukeyashiki-dori). This area, featuring historic volcanic stone walls and sparkling spring water canals meandering through the streets, provides an intriguing and immersive glimpse into the everyday lives and culture of the legendary samurai.
Shimeiso Springs Garden
Honor Shimabara’s identity as the "City of Water" at this serene villa. Sustained by approximately 1,000 tons of fresh underground springs each day, the garden boasts a remarkably clear pond where vibrant, colorful koi fish seem to hover in the air. The tranquil wooden pavilion situated over the water offers a peaceful experience of traditional Japanese beauty and perfect natural balance.
Unzen New Mountain Observation Deck
Juxtapose historical culture with the raw, powerful forces of nature at this stunning observation point. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of Heisei Shinzan, Japan’s most recent active volcanic peak, which emerged during the eruptions of the 1990s.
