Discover the Beauty of Early Summer in Hakone

Immerse yourself in the enchanting early summer vibes of Hakone, where the landscape is adorned with hydrangeas during Japan's rainy season. A key attraction is the scenic journey aboard the Hakone Tozan Railway, affectionately referred to as the “Hydrangea Train,” with blooms so close to your window that you can nearly reach out and touch them. The prime viewing time shifts along the route from mid-June to mid-July, influenced by the elevation changes.

At Odawara Castle Park, recognized as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks, you can take in a stunning display of around 2,500 hydrangea bushes alongside 10,000 iris plants from late May to late June. The park’s landscape, featuring the castle tower and surrounding moats, creates a breathtaking seasonal setting.

Your visit also includes Hakone Shrine, a historic and esteemed spiritual destination situated amidst a verdant forest near Lake Ashi. This shrine is renowned for its blessings pertaining to good fortune, traffic safety, and the fulfillment of wishes.

For lunch, savor a popular buffet at Hakone Hotel Kowakien. The selection features an array of dishes, including roast beef sandwiches crafted by skilled chefs, fresh pizza baked with local ingredients, seafood rice bowls, and the hotel’s signature ramen. You will also find a free-flow of alcoholic and soft drinks available.

The tour incorporates leisure time around Hakone-Yumoto Station, where you can wander through a vibrant shopping street brimming with local delights such as kamaboko fish cakes, hot spring buns, sweets, and traditional crafts.
