Suimeikai

"Suimeikai," a key event of the Pontocho Kabukai, debuted on March 15, 1930. This event emerged from the combination of two earlier performing arts groups: the "Nagauta Chiyoeikai," founded in February 1907, and the "Doyokai," established in September 1927. The name "Suimeikai" is inspired by the clear waters of the Kamo River.

Initially, the group comprised only geiko who demonstrated a skill level exceeding a special standard. Performances were regularly scheduled three times a year, occurring in March, June, and October, until the 36th performance in October 1941. During that period, a "through ticket" was introduced, allowing ticket holders to enjoy performances year-round with a single pass.

Following the war, the event was reinstated in September 1949, with performances held twice a year in March and September, continuing until 1953. Subsequently, a new format of one annual performance was established, consisting of two parts (day and night). However, after the discontinuation of the "Autumn Kamogawa Odori" in 1999, the event that had originally taken place in March was rescheduled to October.

Schedule:

120 minutes performance will be held daily at 15:30 between 2026/10/15－2026/10/20.

• The venue opens approximately 30 min before the performance starts.
• All participants must be 7 years old or older.
• Seats will be chosen by the theater.
• This is ticket only, not a tour.
• Drinking alcohol during the show is not allowed.
• Please do not bring large luggage to the theater.
• Theater do not have parking facilities available. We recommend using public transportation.
