Description

The Miyauchi area in Nanyo City has a rich history as a "monzen-machi," which refers to a town that has developed around the entrance of a significant shrine. This type of community formation is common throughout Japan, and Miyauchi serves as an excellent illustration.

As worshippers visited the Kumano Taisha Shrine, various shops began to line the routes, leading to the creation of a lively town. During this walking tour, you will delve into the history of this shrine-centric community and witness the local way of life that remains vibrant today.
